      How timenow.online works

timenow.online shows the exact current time for your location and for any place in the world. The large clock uses your device's time zone and is checked against our server clock each time the page loads, so you can see whether your computer or phone is running fast or slow.

See the time anywhere on the map

Move your mouse over the world map and the local time of the nearest city appears in a large card. The shaded area is where it is night right now, and the yellow dot marks the spot where the sun is directly overhead. The shading moves every minute.

      Save places with a right-click

Right-click any point on the map, or press and hold on a touch screen, to add that place to your saved list below the map. Your saved places are stored only in your browser and are still there the next time you visit.

Compare up to 10 places at once

Each of the 10 boxes accepts a city (Tokyo), a country (Brazil), a US state (Texas), a time zone abbreviation (EST, CET, IST, PHT) or a UTC offset (UTC+5:30). Each result shows the local time, the date and how many hours it is ahead of or behind you. This makes it easy to plan a call across several offices.

      Daylight saving time

All clocks follow the IANA time zone database, the same source used by computers and phones worldwide. Daylight saving changes are applied automatically on the correct date for each region.

      Frequently asked questions

What time is it right now?

The large clock at the top of timenow.online shows the exact current time in your own time zone. It is checked against the server clock when the page loads, and the page tells you if your device clock is ahead or behind.

How do I find the current time in another city or country?

Hover over any place on the world map to see its local time, or type a city, country, US state or time zone code (such as PST or CET) into one of the 10 boxes and press Enter.

Does timenow.online adjust for daylight saving time?

Yes. Every time is calculated from the IANA time zone database, which includes the daylight saving rules for every region, so clocks switch automatically on the correct date.

Time definitions: UTC, GMT and more

      What is UTC?

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the world's reference time standard. It is kept by atomic clocks and coordinated by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). Every time zone is defined as an offset from UTC, for example UTC+8 for Manila. UTC never changes for daylight saving time.

      What is GMT?

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, which sits on the prime meridian (0° longitude). Today GMT is also the name of the time zone the United Kingdom uses in winter.

Is GMT the same as UTC?

For everyday use, yes: GMT and UTC show the same time, so “UTC/GMT” is a common label. The difference is technical. UTC is the precise atomic standard, while GMT is based on the Earth's rotation and is also a UK time zone.

Should I use UTC or GMT?

Use UTC for scheduling, software, travel and anything international, because it is the official standard and never changes. Be careful with “GMT” for London: in summer the UK switches to BST (British Summer Time, UTC+1), so London is not on GMT from late March to late October.

      What is a time zone?

A time zone is a region that uses the same standard time. Most time zones are a whole number of hours ahead of or behind UTC, but borders follow countries and states rather than straight lines.

      What is a UTC offset?

A UTC offset is how far a place's clock is from UTC, written as UTC+ or UTC−. For example, India is UTC+5:30 and New York is UTC−5 in winter. Offsets range from UTC−12:00 to UTC+14:00.

How many time zones are there in the world?

There are 24 one-hour bands in theory, but in practice more than 35 different UTC offsets are in use, because some regions use half-hour or 45-minute offsets.

What is daylight saving time (DST)?

Daylight saving time is the practice of moving clocks forward one hour in spring and back in autumn to get more evening daylight. The United States changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November; the European Union changes on the last Sunday in March and October. Many countries, including the Philippines, Japan and India, do not use DST.

      What is standard time?

Standard time is a region's normal time when daylight saving time is not in effect. For example, EST (Eastern Standard Time, UTC−5) is New York's standard time and EDT (UTC−4) is its daylight time.

What do EST, PST, CET, IST and PHT mean?

They are time zone abbreviations. EST is Eastern Standard Time (UTC−5) and PST is Pacific Standard Time (UTC−8) in North America. CET is Central European Time (UTC+1). IST usually means India Standard Time (UTC+5:30). PHT is Philippine Time (UTC+8). Some abbreviations are shared, such as IST for India, Ireland and Israel, so a UTC offset or city name is clearer.

      What is Zulu time?

Zulu time is another name for UTC, used in aviation and the military. It comes from the letter Z (“Zulu” in the phonetic alphabet), which marks UTC times, as in 14:00Z.

What is the International Date Line?

The International Date Line is an imaginary line roughly along 180° longitude in the Pacific Ocean. Crossing it westbound moves the calendar forward one day; crossing it eastbound moves it back one day.

      What is the prime meridian?

The prime meridian is the line of 0° longitude that runs through Greenwich, London. It was chosen as the world's reference meridian in 1884, which is why GMT became the basis for world time.

      What is a leap second?

A leap second is an extra second occasionally added to UTC to keep it close to the Earth's slightly irregular rotation. Leap seconds are scheduled to be phased out by 2035.

What is the IANA time zone database?

The IANA time zone database (also called tz or zoneinfo) is the public record of every region's time zone and daylight saving rules. Phones, computers and timenow.online use it, with names like Asia/Manila and America/New_York.

What is ISO 8601 time format?

ISO 8601 is the international standard for writing dates and times, from largest to smallest unit: 2026-10-19T14:30:00Z. The “Z” means UTC; an offset like +08:00 means local time eight hours ahead of UTC.

      What is Unix time?

Unix time (or epoch time) is the number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, not counting leap seconds. Computers use it to store moments in time independent of any time zone.

What is military time (24-hour clock)?

The 24-hour clock counts hours from 00 to 23, so 3:00 PM is 15:00. It avoids AM/PM mix-ups. Use the 24-hour button under the clock to switch formats on timenow.online.

Which country has the most time zones?

France has the most time zones, 12 (13 including its claim in Antarctica), because of its overseas territories. Russia and the United States follow with 11 each.
